Welcome
the birthplace California cuisine
North Berkeley's historic Shattuck & Vine St. neighborhood is celebrated as the birthplace California cuisine since the 1970’s when Alice Waters opened Chez Panisse Restaurant. Home of the original Peet’s Coffee and the famous worker-cooperative, The Cheese Board Collective Bakery, the area has been an ever-evolving culinary wonderland, with new generations of chefs and artisan food purveyors setting up shop to offer local, sustainable ingredients and farm-to-table dining in an array of cuisines.
But it’s not all about the amazing food. Charming boutiques, florists, galleries, salons, and services share this artisan ethos and complete the mix that gives this area its European ambiance with a Berkeley twist. A weekly organic Farmers' Market, guided culinary tours, and food, art and wine events all year make the area a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike.
Join us for the vine st block party!
Vine Street (between Walnut & Shattuck)
Join in a community celebration at the Vine Street Block Party on Sunday, July 27. Vine Street (between Walnut & Shattuck) in North Berkeley is hosting free live music, exceptional wines, craft beers, tasty eats, artisan vendors, family activities, and more. Vine Street will be closed to traffic to allow room for dancing, games, vendor tents, and gathering spaces.
Delicious street food will be served throughout the day thanks to Farmhouse Kitchen. Attendees can sample a special olive oil tasting with Like Family olive oil hosted by The Filling Station. Craft brewers like Berkeley’s Gilman Brewing Company will be pouring and Vintage Berkeley along with Covenant Wines will offer diverse tastings of California wines. Enjoy artisan vendors hosted by ACCI Gallery, indigo dyeing hosted by Urban Indigo Art and Design, and interactive lawn games while listening to some great live music by California surf-band Hiwatters and Colombian Cumbia and Vallenato by Los Bahianatos.
Bring your friends, family, pups, and neighbors, and join in on the fun. While you're in the neighborhood, feel free to spend time in the North Shattuck and Vine business district which comprises world-famous eateries, board game cafes, boutique shops, butcher shops, cheesemongers, bottle shops, art galleries, and more.
This free community event is a fundraiser for the North Shattuck Association and is sponsored by the City of Berkeley, Shasta Pop, Renewal by Anderson, Panoramic Interests, and The Filling Station.

The Farmers’ Market
A SUSTAINABLE MARKET
The Ecology Center Farmers’ Markets are open-air marketplaces where California farmers bring fresh, locally-grown produce and farm-processed foods to sell directly to you. They support small-scale farmers who practice sustainable agriculture in growing fruits, vegetables, nuts, baked goods, jams and preserves, juices, olive oils, meat, cheese, prepared foods, nursery plants, and flowers.
